The Effingham Hearts will be seeking to remain unbeaten in high school football action Friday at Breese against the Mater Dei Knights.
Kickoff will be at 7pm. Hear the action on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com with pre-game coverage at 6:45pm.
Effingham won their opener at Klosterman Field at Washington Savings Bank Stadium over Robinson 54-30, then won at Mt. Carmel last week 26-22.
Effingham will be taking on a Mater Dei team that is a very uncharacteristic 0-2. The Knights lost 35-0 to Columbia, then lost last week 49-13 to Breese Central. Both of those games were at Mater Dei, as the Knights wrap up a three-game homestand Friday night to open their season.
Senior Chase Jansen is the quarterback for Mater Dei. Other offensive weapons are junior running back Brett Hilmes and junior receiver Reed Pingsterhaus.
Effingham will continue with their two-man quarterback operation featuring Jaxon Bridges and Max Buzzard. The Hearts' feature back is senior Weldon Dunston who is already knocking on the door of 400 yards rushing. Kaden Koeberlein caught four more passes last week while complimenting Dunston in the backfield.
The Hearts will return home for games against Mattoon and Charleston following the Mater Dei game.
