Lawrenceville Downs Newton In H.S. Football

Lawrenceville High School handed Newton a 40-21 loss in football action Friday.

The Indians edged out to a 12-7 opening quarter lead and led 18-13 at halftime.

After a Max Meinhart pass completion from the 27 to the four for Newton, Evan Zumbahlen ran the ball in for the touchdown. Hayden Mulvey kicked the pointer after.

The second Eagles touchdown came as Meyer Tarr ran the ball in from the six yard line.The point after failed.

Lawrenceville pushed its lead to 26-13 at the start of the third quarter.

Newton came back with a touchdown as Meinhart handed off to Meyer Tarr from the nine. Meinhart then connected with Gus Bierman for the point after pass.

The Indians scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Meinhart hit six of 16 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. Tarr had one reception for 64 yards while Drake Wolf had three receptions for 36 yards. Zumbalhen had one for 24 and a touchdown and Bierman one for 22.

Tarr carried the ball 24 times for a gain of 90 yards.
