Hearts Play Home Opener vs. Mt. Carmel; Senior Night for EHS

The Effingham Hearts are moving Senior Night to the first home game of the season...tonight.

The Hearts will host the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces. Kickoff will be at 7pm at Klosterman Field at Washington Savings Bank Stadium. You can hear the game on your home for Hearts football, Classic Hits 979XFM. Pre-game coverage will begin at 6:45pm.

The Hearts are coming off a 31-7 Opening Night victory over the Robinson Maroons. Effingham got 180 yards rushing from junior tailback Weldon Dunston, while the Hearts' stout defense allowed the Robinson team just 57 yards rushing. Effingham senior quarterback Gaige Gillum threw for more than 100 yards in his first varsity start, including a touchdown. The Hearts' attack also included a 40-yard field goal from Maicol Sefton.

Mt. Carmel lost their opener 21-14 to Gibson Southern of Ft. Branch, Indiana. Don't be deceived, though; Michael Brewer's crew has gone 12-0 and 9-2 the past two seasons. The Golden Aces are led by senior quarterback Blayne Sisson, who is a three-year starter and is committed to play at Southern Illinois University. He was a 2022 1st Team All-Stater.
