Northwestern has fired head football coach Pat Fitzgerald after an investigation into allegations of team hazing.

Fitzgerald had previously been suspended for two weeks.

The former All-American linebacker played for Northwestern when the squad competed in the Rose Bowl in 1995 and won the Big Ten championship.

Now 48 years old, Fitzgerald has a 110-101 record in 17 seasons and two of his teams won Big Ten West championships in 2018 and 2022. But over the last two seasons, his teams have gone 4-20.

Allegations from a former Northwestern player allege instances of hazing and sexual abuse.

Fitzgerald was suspended before being fired but has said he was not aware of the alleged incidents.
