Hearts to Travel to Rochester in the First Round of the Class 4A Football Playoffs

The Effingham Hearts will travel to Rochester in the first round of the IHSA football playoffs.

Effingham is in Class 4A and received a 13 seed in the south bracket. Effingham, which finished the regular season with a 5-4 record following Friday night's 34-20 loss at Highland, will take on a Rockets squad that ended the regular campaign at 8-1 and got the four seed. The date and time of the game are yet to be determined.

Effingham is one of three Apollo Conference schools to make the playoffs. Mt. Zion is also in Class 4A and got the 12 seed. The Braves, who finished 6-3, will go to Breese Central, the five seed at 7-2. 

Mahomet-Seymour will play in 5A and got the #1 seed in that Class in the south. The Bulldogs will host Ottawa, at 5-4 and the 16 seed. 

Decatur St. Teresa, the Hearts' first opponent this season and undefeated at 9-0 got the #1 seed in the south in Class 2A and will host Chester, the 16 seed at 5-4.

Highland ended up the 2 seed in 5A at 8-1 and will host Dunlap, the 15 seed at 5-4.

As far as area teams, Cumberland at 7-2 got the 6 seed in the south in Class 1A and will host Rushville, the 11 seed at 6-3. 

Flora got the 15 seed in the south in 2A and will travel to Johnston City, the 2 seed at 9-0. 

Vandalia got the 7 seed in 2A and will host Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond, the 10 seed at 7-2.

Shelbyville got the 3 seed in 2A at 8-1 and will host Belleville Althoff, the 14 seed at 5-4. 

Olney Richland County got the 7 seed in Class 4A at 7-2 and wlll host Waterloo, the 10 seed at 6-3.
