The Effingham Hearts look to get back to .500 tonight as they head to Mattoon to take on the Green Wave in Apollo Conference football.

Game time is 7pm, Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45pm on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Effingham and Mattoon are both 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. The Hearts posted their first win last week 31-13 over Charleston. Mattoon got their first win last week 17-14 at Taylorville. The Hearts' victory followed losses to two state-ranked teams in St. Teresa and Mahomet-Seymour. Mattoon lost their first two contests to Troy Triad and Mt. Zion.

Quarterback Tanner Pontious leads the Hearts attack, supplemented by running back Evan Waymoth. After injuries to two other running backs, Waymoth was shifted from fullback to tailback last week and became the first Hearts' back this season to top the 100-yard rushing mark. Andrew Lotz and Caden Walls have led the Effingham receiving corps.

Effingham fans will get a look tonight at Mattoon's new turf field and athletic complex.
