Effingham High School Varsity Football Coach Brett Hefner is excited about the new facility at Klosterman Field at Washington Savings Bank Stadium. He is also wary about the loaded schedule his team faces this year.

Add it all up, it should be a fun high school football season.

Greg Sapp spoke with Coach Hefner Wednesday afternoon ahead of Friday's opening night kickoff at home against Decatur St. Teresa...

Kickoff Friday night is at 7pm. If you can't attend, the game can be heard on Classic Hits 97.9XFM. The pre-game show will begin at 6:45pm. Greg Sapp and Dustin White are back for another season bringing you all of the action.

The Hearts might have the toughest part of the schedule right out of the blocks. After hosting Class 2A power Decatur St. Teresa Friday night, the Hearts will travel to Mahomet-Seymour to take on a team led by senior Wyatt Bohm, who is ranked among the Top 10 quarterbacks in the state heading into the season.

After dealing with two weeks of Bulldogs, the Hearts are home to Charleston, then travel to Mattoon. The Hearts are home for the next two weeks, to host Taylorville and Mt. Zion.

The Hearts will then make their final varsity football trip to Lincoln on October 7, as the Railsplitters are leaving the Apollo Conference after this season.

Effingham will then play host to Breese Mater Dei, then wrap up their regular season at Highland. I know, another battle with the Bulldogs.

It's a demanding schedule, but the Hearts have a few weapons of their own, including 23 seniors.
