Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield will have surgery to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder and will miss Cleveland’s last game of the season Sunday. The 7-9 Browns were eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday. Mayfield has been playing with the injury since Week 2.

 

Washington Football Team To Announce New Name

The Washington Football Team announced Tuesday that it will announce its new name on February 2. But it won’t be the Wolves or RedWolves, which the NFL team said was popular with fans, because of trademarks held by other organizations.

The new helmets and uniforms will feature the franchise’s burgundy-and-gold colors, with three stars on the collar and stripes on the shoulders. Washington dropped its former name, the Redskins, in July 2020, after long facing complaints it was racist toward Native Americans.

 

Eagles' Hurts Asks What's To Be Done About Railing

After Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts narrowly avoided a railing that collapsed as fans leaned over when he was walking toward the tunnel after the game against the Washington Football Team at FedEx Field on Sunday, he’s now asking what’s being done.

Hurts said in a letter to the WFT and NFL Tuesday, “I am writing to inquire what follow-up action is being considered.” He stated: “[I]t could’ve been so much worse. It didn’t hit me until after the fact . . . so I just wanted to see what could be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

 

Titans' Dupree Charged With Assault

Tennessee Titans linebacker Bud Dupree has been charged with misdemeanor assault after a fight at a Nashville Walgreens Sunday, according to a statement Tuesday from police.

It said a group of people Dupree was with got into an argument with a male employee. Dupree grabbed the employee, who was filming during the incident, and his phone, before they began to fight. The ‘Tennesseean’ reported the employee suffered a cut to his forehead. The Titans said they were gathering information.
