Washington Football Team To Announce New Name

The new helmets and uniforms will feature the franchise’s burgundy-and-gold colors, with three stars on the collar and stripes on the shoulders. Washington dropped its former name, the Redskins, in July 2020, after long facing complaints it was racist toward Native Americans.

Hurts said in a letter to the WFT and NFL Tuesday, “I am writing to inquire what follow-up action is being considered.” He stated: “[I]t could’ve been so much worse. It didn’t hit me until after the fact . . . so I just wanted to see what could be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
