Longtime college football coach Tommy Bowden was in Effingham Monday night for the 6th Annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes "Night of Champions" event.

Bowden discussed his career, which included nine games coaching against his father, Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Bowden (dad won five games, son won four) and recruiting against his dad (he had his share of wins there, too).

Bowden had a 90-49 career coaching record at Tulane and Clemson. It's the relationships with his players that was a focus, though, and the efforts by FCA to offer support and encouragement to coaches, since they have such an influence on those who play for them. Bowden suggested that when coaches face Judgement Day, they might not be asked what was their record, but how did they influence their players.

Greg Sapp had a chance to talk with Coach Bowden after Monday night's event...

Bowden encouraged financial support for those who direct FCA in the area, saying one more gift might lead to one more tank of gas that might lead to one more trip to encourage a coach that might lead to contact with a player who might give their life to Christ.

Effingham High School football and track coach Jordan Jaspering spoke about his faith, and Robinson Coach Dale Mendenhall was honored for 25 years of service as a FCA Huddle Leader.
