Hearts Claim Frosh/Soph Win Over Braves

Effingham High School claimed a freshman/sophomore football victory over Mount Zion Monday evening, 24-14.

The Hearts took a 6-0 first quarter lead on a three yard fumble recovery by Alex Pryor for a touchdown.

EHS moved ahead 12-0 when Weldon Dunston scored on an eight yard run. Mount Zion came back within 12-8 on a 38 yard pass play and two point conversion.

The Braves took a14-12 lead on a 78 yard pass play in the third quarter and two point conversion.

The Hearts came back with a touchdown when Dunston went on a 46 yard run and EHS led 18-14. EHS pushed the final to 24-14 when Max Sechrist went in from two yards out in the fourth quarter.

Dunston led the Hearts in rushing with 18 carries for 135 yards.

Defensively, Michael Love led with seven solo tackles and three assists. Ian Wagner had two solo tackles and two assists while Sechrist had three assists, Dunston and Dylan Bovay with one solo and three assists each and Kaden Koeberlein with two solos tackles and two assists.
