Hearts Host Mattoon Friday Night; Military Appreciation Night at Klosterman Field

Fresh off their first win of the season, the Effingham Hearts will host the Mattoon Green Wave in Apollo Conference football action Friday night.

It'll be Military Appreciation Night at Klosterman Field. Kickoff is at 7pm. Pregame coverage is at 6:45pm on your home for Hearts football, 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. 

Effingham posted their first victory last week at Charleston, posting a convincing 42-7 win to move to 1-2 on the season, 1-1 in Apollo Conference play. Effingham had lost at Decatur St. Teresa 42-7 on Opening Night, then lost to Mahomet-Seymour 37-7 in the home opener.

Mattoon, like the Hearts, is 1-2 on the season. The Green Wave lost at Troy Triad 26-13, then fell to Mt. Zion 31-7 in their home opener. Mattoon claimed a win last week 12-9 over Taylorville.

Mahomet-Seyour sits atop the Apollo at 2-0 and 3-0 for all games. Lincoln is 1-0 in the conference and 2-1 overall. Mt. Zion, Mattoon and Effingham are all 1-1 in the conference. Mt. Zion is 2-1 overall, while the Hearts and Mattoon are each 1-2. Taylorville is 0-1 in the Apollo, but 2-1 overall. Charleston is 0-2 in the conference, 1-2 overall.
