Nine Hearts Players Honored On All-Apollo Football Teams

It was a highly successful season for the Effingham High School football squad. The Hearts finished with a perfect 5-0 record, winning the Apollo Conference.

Seven EHS players received All-Apollo Conference First Team honors while two players were named to the Second Team.

Named to the First Team Offense were Nathan Barnes, 6-foot-4, 285 pound senior at strong tackle, Ethan Huss, 5-foot-11, 330 pound senior, at strong guard, Tristian Duncan, 6-foot-2, 190 pound senior, at wide receiver and Chase Woomer, 5-foot-9, 170 pound senior at running back.

Named to the First Team Defense were Austin Herboth, 6-foot-0, 185 pound senior at defensive end, Jacob Stoneburner, 6-foot-3, 235 pound senior at linebacker and Parker Wolfe, 6-foot-0, 170 pound senior at center.

All seven EHS players were unanimous selections.

Other First Team Offensive players were Peyton Daugherty (Charleston), center; Ryne Buttz (Mount Zion), left tackle./center; Josh England (Mount Zion), right tackle; Christian Keyhea (Mount Zion), wide receiver; Drew London (Mount Zion), wide receiver/tight end; Cory Spour (Charleston), running back; Skyler Yance (Mahomet-Seymour), running back and Ashton Summers (Mount Zion), quarterback.

Other First Team Defensive players were Peyton Daughtery (Charleston), defensive tackle; Jack Gallier (Mahomet-Seymour), defensive end; Chad Deaton (Mount Zion), defensive linebacker; Nick Golden (Mahomet-Seymour), linebacker; Zach Shick (Mattoon), lnebacker; Drew London (Mount Zion), linebacker; Cory Spour (Charleston), safety; Sam Schuette (Charleston), safety; Bryson Bartels (Mount Zion), safety and Jonathan Oliger (Mount Zion), kicker/punter.

EHS had two players on the Second Team Defense. Gabe Kihne, 5-foot-9, 175 pound senior, was named as a linebacker and Jakob Logan, a 5-foot-10, 160 pound senior, was named defensive back.

Other Second Team Defensive members were Mason Bates (Taylorville), defensive lineman; Brody Rankin (Charleston), defensive lineman; Zac Girard (Mount Zion), defensive lineman; Dakota Spencer (Mattoon), defensive lneman; Ty Coartney (Charleston), linebacker; Matthias Adams (Mount Zion), linebacker; Aidan Spurgeon (Mattoon), lnebacker; Brayden Rennels (Charleston), defensive back; Nolan Nierenhausen (Mahomet-Seymour), defensive back and Ethan Grindley (Mahomet-Seymour, defensive back.

Named to the Second Team Offense were  Drew Matheny (Charleston), tackle; Tanner Strampp (Lincoln), tackle; Tyler Uken (Mahomet-Seymour), tackle; Braden Smith (Mahomet-Seymour), guard; Mylin Mosley (Mount Zion), tackle; Sam Schuette (Charleston), wide receiver;; Dream Eagle (Mahomet-Seymour), wide receiver; Ethan Mileham (Taylorville), wide receiver; Jakai Johnson (Mattoon), running back; Bryson Bartels (Mount Zon), running back; Matthias Adams (Mount Zion), running back and Braden Finch (Mahomet-Seymour), quarterback.

The Hearts defeated Mahomet-Seymour, 21-7; Charleston, 34-14; Mount Zion, 34-28; Mattoon, 28-0 and Lincoln, 43-6. 

Games canceled for EHS were against Taylorville and Prairie Central.

EHS was followed by Mount Zion 3-1, Charleston 3-2, Mahomet-Seymour 3-2, Mattoon 2-3, Taylorville 0-3 and Lincoln 0-5.
