Auburn Football Facing Several Violations
According to a report by former Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts, Auburn changed players' grades to secure eligibility, offered money to potential NFL draft picks so they would return for their senior seasons and violated NCAA recruiting rules. As many as nine players' grades were changed before the Tigers' win in the 2011 BCS National Championship game. The allegations happened under former head coach Gene Chizik, who was fired after four seasons following a 3-9 finish last year.
Cardinals' Washington Suspended Four Games
(New York, NY) -- The NFL is suspending Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Washington will sit the first four games of the 2013 season. He is still eligible to participate in offseason and preseason practices and games. The 26-year-old Washington had nine sacks last season, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.
