EHS Pounds Mattoon In Frosh/Soph Football

Effingham stepped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and went on to pound Mattoon, 50-6 in freshman/sophomore football action Monday.

The Hearts held the Green Wave scoreless while racking up a 38-0 halftime lead. Spencer Fox scored on a three-yard run while Charlie Ring pulled in an eight yard pass from Gaige Gillum for the second score. Fox ran the extra point. Conner Simmons then scored on a five yard run in the second quarter. Simmons then pulled in a pass from Caden Walls for the point after. Fox  had a 15-yard run for a touchdown. Gillum caught a pass from Hunter Reed for the point after.

Garrett Wolfe scored on a 27 yard pass from Gillum. Fox ran the ooint after and the Hearts led 38-0 at the half.

EHS scored 12 more points in the final period. Fox ran in from six yards out and Joshue Vergel had a 17-yard run.

Fox led in rushing with 22 for 168 yards and three touchdowns.

Leading in tackles was Trinity Womack with nine tackles, two for loss. Chris Hemwall also had nine tackles.
