EHS Beats Charleston In Frosh/Soph Football

Effingham High School defeated Charleston, 12-8 in freshman/sophomore football competition Monday.

The Trojans took an 8-0 lead in the opening quarter. The Hearts tallied a touchdown in the second quarter on a three-yard run by Spencer Fox. The point after run failed and the Hearts trailed 8-6 at hafltime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. EHS then had another Fox run, this time six yards and the Hearts moved ahead 12-8 and that's where the scoring ended.

Charlie Ring had 12 rushes for 54 yards for the Hearts while John Westendorf had 14 rushes for 43 yards and Spencer Fox 12 rushes for 42 yards and two touchdowns.

Garrett Wolfe pulled in one pass for 38 yards. Gaige Gillum connected on two of 10 passes for 14 yards while Conner Simmons had one for 38 yards.

Evan Waymoth led defensively with five tackles and two tackles for loss along with London Rinkel and Chris Hemwall with five tackles, one for loss each.
