You local sports fans have probably heard it before. "Imagine if Teutopolis had football. All of those big boys; they'd have a great team."

Well, now we might see whether that would be so.

The Teutopolis Board of Education Monday authorized Superintendent Matt Sturgeon to collect preliminary information regarding the establishment of a football program for further review and consideration at a future Board meeting.

So, no decisions, but plenty of discussion has been going on. Sturgeon said that he will seek input from students, parents and the community on the idea, which was advanced by a Board member at the September meeting. He said there's no deadline for reaching a decision. He said that even if the decision was to develop a football program, it's not known when a varsity team would hit the field.

That's another consideration; where would the field be located? And, what conference would they join? And, would the process start with a JFL program to teach kids how to play and play safely?

Many decisions to make, and that's if the Board decides to proceed with a program. There are implications for existing sports at Teutopolis, too.

We will keep you up to date.
