College football Hall of Fame coach Pat Dye, who led Auburn for 12 seasons, turning the team into a Southeastern Conference power, died Monday. He was 80.
Dye began as head coach of Auburn in 1981, when it had only had three winning seasons in six years, and over 12 years he led them to winning or sharing four conference titles and a 99-39-4 record, but he was forced to resign in 1992 over the football program's pay-for-play scandal.
Dye was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.
