The NFL draft, which was held virtually for the first time because of the coronavirus pandemic, averaged a record 8.4 million viewers over its three days from Thursday to Saturday.

The previous high was 6.2 million viewers last year. The record ratings came as the draft was the first live sporting event in weeks, after the sports shutdowns last month as the pandemic ramped up in the U.S.

Saints, Winston In Talks

The New Orleans Saints and Jameis Winston are in talks to make the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback a backup to Drew Brees. Winston led the NFL last season in yards passing and was second in touchdown passes, but also led the NFL in interceptions. The Bucs allowed him to enter free agency and signed Tom Brady as their new quarterback. The Saints have also given a new two-year contract to reserve quarterback and utility player Taysom Hill.

Patriots Kicker To Cover Tattoo

New England Patriots rookie kicker Justin Rohrwasser, who was picked 159th in this weekend’s draft, said Saturday he’ll cover up a tattoo he got when he was a teenager that resembles the symbol of a rightwing militia called The Three Percenters.

The 23-year-old said he has a lot of family in the military, explaining, “I thought it stood for a military support symbol at the time. . . . I should have done way more research before I put any mark or symbol like that on my body, and it's not something I ever want to represent. It will be covered.”
