The NFL draft was held virtually Thursday night for the first time ever because of the pandemic, but the top selection was no surprise, as the Cincinnati Bengals took Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow with the number one pick.

Commissioner Roger Goodell, team personnel and the players were all participating online from their homes, and it went smoothly, with no apparent glitches.

The Washington Redskins chose Ohio State defensive end Chase Young with the second pick. Rounding out the top five: 3rd - Detroit Lions: Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah; 4th - New York Giants: Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas; 5th - Miami Dolphins: Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Las Vegas was supposed to host this year's NFL draft, but that fell apart because of the pandemic. However, the city got some good news Thursday night, when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed during the virtual draft that Las Vegas will host the 2022 draft.

We’ll see in two years if the city will have the same fittingly Vegas plans they’d had this year of setting up the stage in the Bellagio fountains and having the drafted players brought to it by boat. Next year’s draft will be held in Cleveland.
