It was a struggle in the first half, but the Effingham Hearts nonetheless posted a 35-14 victory over the Charleston Trojans Friday night. The Apollo Conference win pushed the Hearts to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the conference. The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Those points didn't come easily, though; the Hearts scored on a 60-yard pass play from Nathan Shackelford to Tristin Duncan and made the extra point to tie the game at 7-7 with 4:40 remaining in the first half, and that's where the game stood at halftime.

Effingham stopped turning the ball over so much after intermission and scored four unanswered touchdowns to make it 35-7. The Hearts' scores came on a three-yard run by Keegan Baker, a one-yard score by Chase Woomer, and catches of 24 yards and 22 yards by Cameron Kalber.
