Effingham will play host to the Lincoln Railsplitters. Kickoff at Klosterman Field is set for 7pm. Hear the action on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
The Hearts found themselves trailing 28-17 when their opener was halted Friday night by a second round of lightning. The decision was eventually made to complete the game Saturday afternoon. That decision worked out well for the Hearts, who outscored Mater Dei 15-0 in the remaining quarter and a half of the game to win 32-28.
Meanwhile, Lincoln was blanked in their season opener by Bartonville Limestone 14-0.
Effingham showed a pretty balanced attack offensively, as Nathan Shackelford threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns in his first varsity start at quarterback, while the Hearts gained another 143 yards rushing and a touchdown.
The Hearts will deal with the absence of Parker Wolfe, who was injured in last week's action. Coach Brett Hefner said Nate Thompson will serve as holder on extra point tries and Gunnar Franklin will take Wolfe's place on defense.
Next week, Effingham will be back on the road, heading to Jerseyville for non-conference action.
