Learn to officiate high school football. Classes are now forming to fill the shortage of high school and youth league sports officials.

The class is free with no prerequisites. Earn your Illinois High School Association officials license.

Training covers rules, penalty enforcement, positioning and timing through game film review. The class gives you the opportunity to work games this upcoming season.

The six week course of training begins July 9 and will go through August 13, Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. In addition, two Saturday on-field sessions, July 27 and August 3 classes will be held. The classes will be at eight locations. Tentative class locations include: Bremen High School (Midlothian), Plainfield Central High School, Lisle Park District, Elmwood Park High School, Haas Park (Chicago), Libertyville High School, Kishwaukee College (Malta) and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Palatine). Check website as class dates at some locations vary.

There is no fee and your IHSA license fee is discounted from $70 to $35 (new IHSA officials only). Register online at www.iaco-official.org. New officials must fill out an IHSA application form at the first class and bring a check or money order. Pay to the order of IHSA for $35. Discount not available if you register to be an official on the IHSA website or if you already hold an officials license in any other sport with the IHSA. Officials already licensed with 1-2 years experience, have also been regular attendees at these classes and are welcome to participate to advance their skills.
