Kendall Ballman gave Effingham Hearts' fans many thrills during his football seasons on Klosterman Field. He has continued to do that on Paul Smith Field during the baseball season.

Now, Ballman plans to pursue both sports at Knox College in Galesburg.

Ballman signed letters-of-intent Thursday during a ceremony in EHS Gym. He will play defensive back in football and outfield in baseball.

Ballman was a two-way standout in football, not only playing excellent defense but leading the way carrying the football. On the baseball diamond, Ballman plays a mean centerfield and is a spirited baserunner.

Kendall said Galesburg is an opportunity to experience life away from home, but is only slightly larger than Effingham so a good fit. He also liked the campus and the sports facilities.

Kendall is the son of Terri and Mark Ballman.
