COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Despite 24 second half points, Illinois couldn't overcome a sluggish start and fell to Maryland, 63-33, Saturday in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Welcome Home, Reggie Corbin

The junior running back produced yet another strong performance to lead the Illini rushing attack, as the Upper Marlboro, Maryland, native rushed 18 times for a career-high 155 yards (8.6 yards per carry).

Corbin exploded for a 69-yard touchdown in the third quarter, marking his fifth run of 50+ yards this season and securing his third career 100-yard rushing game.
Putting His Stamp on it

Sophomore wide receiver Dominic Stampley led Illinois to its most productive passing game of the season on Saturday, hauling in four catches for a career-high 153 yards, including touchdowns of 84 and 61 yards.

Stampley is the first Illinois receiver to go over 150 yards since Malik Turner had 164 at Northwestern on November 26, 2016.
Career Day for McLaughlin

Senior kicker Chase McLaughlin tied a career-high with four made field goals on Saturday, connecting from 32, 34, 39 and 26 yards. McLaughlin is now 15-of-20 on field goal attempts on the year, including four from 50+.

Team Notes

    Illinois and Maryland played for the first time in history.
    This was the final inaugural matchup between any two Big Ten teams.
    AJ Bush Jr.'s 84-yard touchdown pass to Dominic Stampley was the third-longest passing play in Illinois history (90 Taliaferro to Yavorski vs. Ohio State 10/13/1962, 86 Eason to O. Williams vs. Wisconsin 10/24/1981). It was Illinois' longest play since Rashard Mendenhall's 86-yard run at Northwestern 11/18/2006.
    Illinois ran for 233 yards on 35 carries (6.6 yards/carry), the Illini's seventh time rushing for more than 200 yards in the first eight games this season.
    Illinois ended a streak of 21 straight games forcing a turnover, which was previously the longest active streak in Power 5.
    Illinois started three true freshmen (SS Sydney Brown, QB M.J. Rivers II, NB Delano Ware).
    Illinois' true freshmen have combined for 23 starts, the sixth most in a season in Illinois history. Last year, Illinois set the program record with 86 cumulative true freshmen starts.

    Sophomore WR Dominic Stampley had a career-high 153 receiving yards on four catches, including a 61-yard touchdown and 84-yard touchdown. Stampley is Illinois' first receiver to go over 150 yards since Malik Turner had 164 at Northwestern 11/26/2016.
    Junior WR Trenard Davis had a career-high six receptions for 53 yards.
    Junior K Chase McLaughlin tied a career high with four field goals made (32, 34, 39, 26).
    Freshman QB M.J. Rivers II started for the third time this season, becoming the third Illini quarterback in history to start three or more games (9 Juice Williams 2005, 5 Kurt Kittner 1998). Rivers was injured in the third quarter on former Illini Tre Watson's targeting penalty and did not return.
    Senior QB AJ Bush Jr. came in after Rivers' injury and completed 11-of-19 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns.
    Freshman SS Sydney Brown started for the seventh time this season, tied for the fourth most by a true freshman defensive back in Illinois history.
    Senior OL Nick Allegretti started for the 32nd straight game.
    Sophomore OL Alex Palczewski started for the 19th straight game.
