Hearts Play at Mahomet-Seymour Friday; Later Start Time

The Effingham Hearts wrap up a three-game road trip Friday night, heading back into Apollo Conference action at Mahomet-Seymour.

Effingham will be looking for its fourth straight victory. After losses the first two weeks, the Hearts have turned their season around with a 41-14 win over Mt. Zion at Klosterman Field and then back-to-back road wins 36-0 at Lincoln and 54-19 at Macomb to improve to 3-2 for all games. The Hearts are 2-1 in conference play.

Mahomet-Seymour checks into the action with a 1-4 record. The Bulldogs lost their opener to Washington 52-7, then posted their only win to date over Charleston in conference action 49-20. Mahomet-Seymour have lost their last three contests; 21-20 at Mascoutah, 38-26 to Taylorville, and 31-28 at Mattoon. The closeness of those last three scores might be a better indicator than the 1-4 record that the Hearts will face a challenge Friday.

Effingham's offense was in high gear last Friday, as they rolled up those 54 points by midway through the third quarter, then went to a ball control offense for the remainder of the contest.

This is Week 6; the Hearts still need three more wins in these last four games to clinch a playoff berth.
