A second half comeback led the Illinois Fighting Illini to a 31-24 victory over Kent State in the season opener for the U of I.

Illinois trailed 17-3 at halftime, but things started to click after intermission.

Linebacker Jake Hansen was named Big 10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Golden Flashes.

The victory was tempered by the loss for the season of wide receiver Mike Dudek due to a knee injury.
