The Effingham Hearts will seek their fourth straight win Friday night when they host the Macomb Bombers in non-conference football action.
Game time at Klosterman Field is 7pm. It'll be Military Appreciation Night. Hear the game on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:45pm.
Macomb is the home of Western Illinois University. There is a significant tie for Effingham to the Bombers. Long-time St. Anthony High School Principal, boys basketball coach and baseball coach Dave Bartlett serves as Athletic Director at Macomb High School.
Effingham is on a roll after an opening night loss 27-26 at Breese against Mater Dei. Effingham also fell behind in its next game 24-7 at Taylorville, but bounced back to win 50-37. The Hearts won at Mt. Zion 37-19 and won their home opener last week, smashing Lincoln 63-14. That game saw Hearts running back Terrence Hill set the career rushing record for EHS, breaking Bob Devall's 45-year-old record.
It's been a tough year for Macomb. The Bombers lost their opener to Lincoln 7-6, but were then hammered by Canton 61-0. Macomb bounced back with a 34-7 win over Farmer City Blue Ridge, but were shut out last week by Mt. Zion 36-0.
Jacob Burg quarterbacks the Bombers, while Kyle Protsman is their lead running back.
While Hill continues to churn up big yardage for the Hearts on the ground, quarterback Landon Wolfe's numbers continue to improve game-to-game.
