Newton Advances to Quarterfinals in Football

NEWTON -- Newton High School advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 3A Football Playoffs with a victory Friday evening.

The Eagles defeated Pana 35-13. Mitch Bierman ran for 296 yards and four touchdowns for the Eagles.

Pana was led by Jacob Beeson who connected on passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Newton will now face Carlinville Friday at a time to be determined. Carlinville defeated Williamsville 42-35.
