PHILADELPHIA – Former Eastern Illinois safety Jourdan Wickliffe has been invited to participate in the Philadelphia Eagles Rookie Camp taking place this weekend. Wickliffe is one of 26 players that have been invited to camp this weekend on a tryout basis joining players that were selected by the Eagles in the 2016 NFL Draft or signed as rookie free agents in the days following the draft.
Wickliffe was a three-time first team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection at safety, moving to that position midway through his redshirt freshman season after being recruited as a wide receiver. He led the team in tackles as a sophomore with 91 tackles ranking 22nd in the NCAA in forced fumbles. As a junior he ranked 37th in the FCS in interceptions while making 62 tackles. Despite missing three games as a senior he still ranked sixth in the FCS in interceptions per game with five. He finished his career with 14 interceptions which ranks second on the EIU career. He had ten solo tackles in his final collegiate game in the FCS playoffs at Northern Iowa to finish with 296 career tackles.
Wickliffe is the second EIU player from this past year’s team that will be in action in an NFL Rookie Camp. Linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill is in camp with the New England Patriots after being selected in the 6th round of this year’s NFL Draft.
EIU currently has two active players on NFL rosters with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. A third former EIU quarterback, Sean Payton, will be entering his 10th year as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
