EHS Downs Paris in Freshman Contest

PARIS -- The Effingham freshman football squad traveled to Paris and picked up a 38-14 victory over the Tigers Thursday evening.
EHS stepped out to a 14-0 opening quarter lead and led 22-0 at halftime. Paris scored its lone touchdown in the third quarter as the Hearts scored again and led 30-6. EHS finished out with another touchdown in the final quarter.
Joseph Nieman completed five of seven passes for 127 yards. Pulling in touchdown passes for the Hearts were Tucker Denton with two, one a 20-yard pass and the other on a 39-yard play. Drew Vasquez claimed the other touchdown on a pass, a 27-yarder.
Vasquez also scored another touchdown, this one on a five-yard run. One touchdown came on a defensive play as Alex Howell pulled in an interception and went 58 yards for the score.
Howell and Vasquez had five carries each. Howell for 35 yards and Vasquez for 31 yards. Zak Kahley had two carries for 42 yards.
Denton pulled in three passes for 80 yards.
Defensively Zach Koester had three solo tackles and four assists. Nieman had two solo tackles and six assists. Howell had an interception and a quarterback sack. Turner Kronewitter had a quarterback sack, Caleb Martin and assist and a fumble recovery and Jared Minor had an interception.
