The one-game suspension of New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been upheld on appeal, and Beckham will not be permitted to practice with the Giants for the remainder of this week or play in Sunday night's game in Minnesota.
The NFL issued the suspension Monday, the day after Beckham was flagged three times for unnecessary roughness for in-game dust-ups with Panthers cornerback Josh Norman in the Giants' 38-35 loss to Carolina. In handing down the suspension, league president of football operations Merton Hanks ruled that Beckham's actions put his opponents at unnecessary risk of injury.
"Acts that jeopardize the safety of players or expose them to unnecessary risk cannot be tolerated," Hanks said in his letter to Beckham on Monday.
Per his rights under the collective bargaining agreement, Beckham appealed the suspension Wednesday in front of jointly appointed appeals officer James Thrash at the NFL offices in New York City.
Shortly before 6:30 pm CT, Thrash issued his ruling, and the league announced that Beckham's suspension would stand.
Rams' Bailey Home For Holidays
Nearly a month after he was shot in the head, St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey is home for the holidays.
Bailey, who was shot twice while in the Miami area on Nov. 24, tweeted Wednesday evening that he has been released from the hospital and is home with his family in time for Christmas.
In the weeks after the six-plus-hour surgery that followed the shooting, Bailey has habitually offered social media updates on his progress. Rams coach Jeff Fisher has helped in that regard, too, providing news of Bailey signing his name, talking and walking. He even arranged for Bailey to talk to the team via video before Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last week, Fisher said there was hope that Bailey would be out of the hospital in the "next week or so." Over the weekend, Bailey posted an Instagram video of himself lightly jogging through the halls of the hospital where he'd been staying.
