MINNEAPOLIS -- Shannon Brooks rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns, including a 75-yard romp into the end zone with 1:25 remaining for Minnesota to seal a 32-23 victory over Illinois Saturday.
Mitch Leidner threw a third-and-goal touchdown pass to Rashad Stillwith five seconds left before halftime, helping the Golden Gophers (5-6, 2-5 Big Ten) stop a four-game losing streak.
Malik Turner caught 11 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown from West Lunt for the Fighting Illini (5-6, 2-5), who outgained the Gophers 432-343 in total yardage and had the ball for more than two-thirds of the second half.
Next up for the Illini is Northwestern in Chicago.
At Charleston
Eastern Illinois University forced a timely turnover which resulted in a Panthers touchdown for the second straight week as EIU beat Eastern Kentucky, 21-7, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at O'Brien Field.
The win keeps the Panthers FCS at-large playoff hopes alive as they finished the regular season 7-4 overall, 7-1 in the QVC. Eastern Kentucky, which was ranked No. 23 in this week's STATS FCS Media Pool, ended the year at 6-5 overall, 5-3 in the OVC.
