An ominous looking sky Saturday at Bethalto as Effingham played a freshman/sophomore football contest.

BETHALTO -- Effingham High School's freshman/sophomore football team traveled to Bethalto Civic Memorial and dropped a 32-16 decision Saturday.

The two squads were tied at 6-6 after the first quarter. Bethalto pushed ahead 20-14 at halftime. Bethalto then scored two touchdowns in the second half while the Hearts had two points.

Leading EHS in rushing were Tyler Marschewski with six carries for 23 yards and Kendall Ballman with seven carries for 13 yards.

Landon Wolfe connected on eight of 22 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Bushue had three catches for 88 yards and a touchdown and Kaleb Kihne had two catches for 55 yards.

Lucas Vasquez led in tackles with 6 1/2 while Braden Hasty, Jacob Miller and Alec Morrissey had 4 1/2 each. Matthew Hites had three tackles and two sacks.

EHS is back in action Thursday with a freshman game hosting Charleston and Monday, Sept. 21 with a JV home contest, also against Charleston.
