MASCOUTAH -- Effingham High School's freshman/sophomore squad fell to Mascoutah Saturday, 18-6.

Mascoutah kicked a field goal in the opening quarter after an interception was returned to the Hearts' 10-yard line. That's the only scoring in the first half.

Mascoutah's defense then forced a safety in the third quarter. The Hearts came back to take a 6-5 lead when Landon Wolfe connected with Zach Lee on a six-yard pass.

Mascoutah then scored on an interception return in the final period and the extra point was good. The homestanders then blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown to finish out the scoring.

Effingham's Landon Wolfe threw for 103 yards on nine of 16 passes. Tanner Loy had 17 yards rushing and 33 yards receiving. Zach Lee had 19 yards on three receptions including the touchdown.

Defensively, Lucas Vasquez led with 6.5 tackles. Hayden Diveley added two sacks and a fumble recovery. Dylan Bushur had an interception.
