Newton, Area Schools Set for Football Playoffs

Several area squads are still in the hunt for a high school football championship, the closest one is Newton High School.
The Eagles finished the regular season unbeaten with a perfect 9-0 record. Newton will be competing in Class 3A this Saturday, playing host to Sullivan-Okaw Valley Co-op . The Eagles are ranked No. 3 in Class 3A and will take on the 14th-ranked SOV squad at 7 p.m.
The other lone area team in Class 3A is Marshall (8-1) who will be hosting Tolono Unity (6-3). Marshall ils ranked seventh and Tolono Unity 10th. The game is at 2 p.m. Saturday.
In Class 1A, top-ranked Tuscola (9-0) plays host to Camp Point Central (5-4) at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Red Hill (Bridgeport) (5-4) travels to fourth-ranked Carrollton (8-1) Saturday at 2 p.m. Third-ranked Arcola (9-0) will host 14th-ranked Hardin Calhoun Co-op (5-4) Saturday at 2 p.m.
In Class 2A, top-ranked Pana (9-0) will play host to 16th-ranked Georgetown-Ridge Farm (5-4) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Ninth-ranked Lawrenceville (7-2) travels to eighth-ranked Chester (7-2) Saturday at 2 p.m.
Fifth-ranked Shelbyville (7-2) is home to 12th-ranked Auburn (6-3) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Taylorville and Mount Zion will square off in Class 4A. The Tornadoes play host to Mount Zion Friday in a 7 p.m. contest. Third-ranked Taylorville has a perfect 9-0 mark while 14th-ranked Mount Zion is 6-3.
