The Effingham High School junior varsity team didn't allow not playing last week to slow it down as the Hearts beat Centralia 49-16 Monday evening.
The Hearts scored in every quarter and in a variety of ways. Kevin Daugherty was 11 of 14 passing for 162 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for another 53 yards on nine carries and scored a touchdown.
Zach Miller carried the ball six times for 80 yards and a touchdown and also caught two passes for 44 yards and a touchdown. Kayne Verdeyen also had a rushing touchdown on three carries. The Hearts other touchdown came on one of the three interceptions by Noah Hagen.
Brandon Loy had 14 tackles, leading a team that held Centralia to minus eight yards rushing for the game. The Hearts were only forced to punt once but Peyton Bushue helped keep good field position with a 60 yard return.
The JV Hearts improve to 2-0 and will play at Charleston next Monday night.
