(Glendale, AZ) -- The NFL will hold its Pro Bowl Fantasy Draft tonight. It will air on NFL Network beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern. Hall of Fame wide receivers Cris Carter and Michael Irvin will serve as alumni captains that help select teams regardless of conference affiliation. Irvin won a coin toss on Tuesday and elected to take the player-captain combination of Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray and Browns cornerback Joe Haden for Team Irvin.
Team Carter gets the player-captain combination of Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. Carter will instead get the first pick in the draft itself. This is just the second season of the unconferenced format. Before that, the Pro Bowl had pitted the NFC against the AFC since 1971. The 2015 Pro Bowl will be played this Sunday at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
49ers' Fangio To Become Bears Defensive Coordinator
(Lake Forest, IL) -- Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is joining the Chicago Bears in the same role, the team announced Tuesday. Fangio, the architect of one of the NFL's premier defenses during a four-year run in San Francisco, bolted the 49ers after being passed over in favor of defensive line coach Jim Tomsula to become Jim Harbaugh's successor as the team's head coach. The longtime NFL assistant instead joins the staff of newly named Bears head coach John Fox, where Fangio will be in charge of rebuilding a defense that was one of the league's most porous units. Chicago has ranked 30th overall in total defense in each of the past two seasons, while the 442 points the Bears allowed in 2014 were surpassed only by Oakland for the most in the league. Chicago finished 30th in scoring defense the previous year.
Ravens Name Trestman OC
(Owings Mills, MD) -- Marc Trestman is the new offensive coordinator of the Ravens. The former Bears head coach replaces Gary Kubiak, who left after one season to become head coach of the Broncos. The 59-year-old was fired as head coach by Chicago after a 5-11 season, the Bears' worst record in 10 years.
Twelve Patriots Footballs Were Under-Inflated
Eleven of the 12 footballs allotted to the New England Patriots for Sunday's AFC Championship Game were under-inflated, according to a report. Citing league sources close to the NFL's investigation, ESPN.com reported the 11 balls were each under-inflated by two pounds of air pressure. NFL rules mandate game balls be inflated to 12 1/2 to 13 1/2 pounds per square inch (PSI). "We are not commenting on the matter at this time," NFL spokesman Michael Signora told SportsNetwork.com in an email late Tuesday evening. The NFL launched an investigation following New England's 45-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts in a rain-soaked game at Gillette Stadium, which advanced the Patriots to the Super Bowl against Seattle. A deflated football is said to be easier to throw and catch in inclement weather. If the Patriots are found to have deflated footballs intentionally, they could be subject to penalties, including a possible forfeiture of drafts picks.
