Plans were unveiled over the noon hour Friday for a new open-air football stadium in downtown St. Louis.

The stadium would be located along the banks of the Mississippi River, not far from the Gateway Arch, and north of the Lumiere Hotel and Casino.

The cost of the stadium is estimated at between $860 million and $985 million, with construction beginning in 2016. The stadium should be completed in 2020.

Under the plan, the NFL and the team would be responsible for up to half the cost of the stadium, while some funding would come from tax credits and other public financing. The current home of the St. Louis Rams, the Edward Jones Dome, would remain and would be made available as a draw for other events to downtown St. Louis.

Rams' owner Stan Kroenke has announced plans to build a stadium on a 60-acre tract of land he has acquired in Ingleside, California, outside Los Angeles. The St. Louis task force did not limit their plans for a stadium as a home for the Rams, but for a "NFL team".
