Eagles Hang On To Top Rams
(Philadelphia, PA) -- The Eagles scored a pair of non-offensive touchdowns to build a huge lead and hang on for a 34-28 win over the Rams at Lincoln Financial Field. Chris Maragos recovered a blocked punt for a TD and Cedric Thornton recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score as Philadelphia improved to 4-1. Nick Foles threw for 207 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while LeSean McCoy ran for 81 yards in the win. Austin Davis threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns but lost two fumbles for St. Louis, which fell to 1-3. Brian Quick made five catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns in defeat.
Panthers Rally By Bears
(Charlotte, NC) -- Cam Newton hit Greg Olsen from six yards out with just over two minutes to play to complete a 31-24 comeback win over the Bears at Bank of America Stadium. Philly Brown opened the scoring with a 79-yard punt return for a TD, but the Bears then scored the next 21 points to make it 21-7 early in the second quarter. Both Newton TD passes went to Olsen, who ended with six grabs and 72 yards. Newton finished with 255 yards and an interception. Jay Cuter had two touchdowns and two picks through the air while rushing for 22 yards and a score. Matt Forte had 12 catches for 105 yards and a TD, and Alshon Jeffery added 97 yards and a score. There were seven combined turnovers in the game; the costliest one coming late in the fourth by Forte. That fumble set up the game-winning drive for Carolina, which improved to 3-2. Chicago slipped to 2-3.
The Bears are turning the page to Week Six of the NFL season. Chicago will remain on the road this week to face the Falcons in Atlanta. The Bears are 2-3, at the bottom of the NFC North alongside Minnesota. The Falcons are also 2-3 after a loss to the Giants.
Browns Down Titans
(Nashville, TN) -- Brian Hoyer hit Travis Benjamin from six yards out with just over a minute to play to complete a 29-28 comeback win over the Titans in Nashville. The two connected 5 1/2 minutes earlier from 17 yards out to get Cleveland within a score. The 25-point comeback on the road was the largest in NFL history. Hoyer ended with 292 yards, three TDs and an interception for Cleveland, which improved to 2-2. Ben Tate returned from injury and rushed for 123 yards on 22 carries. The Titans were up 28-3 before Hoyer found Jim Dray right before the half. Jake Locker was 8-of-11 for a touchdown before exiting with a hand injury. He also rushed for a TD in defeat. Charlie Whitehurst threw two touchdowns in relief. Kendall Wright led the team in rushing with 43 yards and had a pair of TD grabs. Tennessee slipped to 1-4.
Giants Rally Past Falcons
(East Rutherford, NJ) -- The Giants scored 20 unanswered points to rally for a 30-20 win over the Falcons at MetLife Stadium. Eli Manning threw for 200 yards with two touchdowns while Andre Williams ran for 65 yards and a score. Rashad Jennings added 55 yards on the ground before departing with a knee injury. Rookie Odell Beckham Jr. caught four passes for 44 yards and a TD in his NFL debut while Ruben Randle added a touchdown grab as New York improved to 3-2. Julio Jones hauled in 11 passes for 105 yards while Matt Ryan threw for 316 yards with a touchdown and interception. Stephen Jackson also scored on the ground for Atlanta, which fell to 2-3.
Saints Rally By Bucs In OT
(New Orleans, LA) -- Khiry Robinson rushed for an 18-yard touchdown in overtime to lift the Saints to a 37-31 overtime win over the Buccaneers in New Orleans. Shayne Graham's 44-yard field goal with 2:30 left tied the game at 31-all for the Saints, who improved to 2-3. The Saints were down 11 points early in the fourth quarter after Mike Glennon found Robert Herron from nine yards out. Drew Brees had 371 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Pierre Thomas had a rushing and a receiving TD in the win. Glennon threw for two TDs and an interception for the Bucs, who are 1-4. Bobby Rainey's nine-yard score and Danny Lansanah turning one of the Brees INTs into a score put Tampa Bay up 24-13 in the third. They had 15 penalties for 113 yards.
Cowboys Escape Texans In OT
(Arlington, TX) -- Dan Bailey hit a 49-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Cowboys to a 20-17 win over the Texans at AT&T Stadium. Bailey had a streak of 30 straight field goals made end after missing a 53-yarder as time expired in regulation. DeMarco Murray ran for 136 yards but lost a fumble for Dallas, which improved to 4-1. Dez Bryant had nine catches for 85 yards and one of two TDs from Tony Romo, who ended 28-of-41 for 324 yards and an interception. Arian Foster rushed for 157 yards and two scores for Houston, which slipped to 3-2. His second of the day, followed by the PAT, tied the game at 17-all with under a minute to play. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 154 yards and a pick.
Colts Hold Off Ravens
(Indianapolis, IN) -- Andrew Luck threw for 312 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions as the Colts held on late for a 20-13 win over the Ravens at Lucas Oil Stadium. Luck also ran for a score as Indianapolis withstood four total turnovers to improve to 3-2. T.Y. Hilton made nine catches for 90 yards while Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 68 yards in the win. Justin Forsett ran for 42 yards and a touchdown for Baltimore while Joe Flacco threw for 235 yards with an interception. Owen Daniels made five grabs for 70 yards as the Ravens fell to 3-2.
Steelers Keep Jaguars Winless
(Jacksonville, FL) -- The Steelers rebounded from a bad loss in Week Four to keep the Jaguars winless with a 17-9 victory in Jacksonville. Pittsburgh lost to Tampa Bay the previous week and didn't let it hang over its head to improve to 3-2 and 2-1 on the road. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 273 yards and a touchdown while Le'Veon Bell had 82 yards on the ground. Antonio Brown hauled in five catches for 84 yards in the win. Blake Bortles threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a TD in the fourth quarter. He ended 22-for-36 with 191 yards. Josh Scobee hit all three field goals. The Jags are 0-5.
Carpenter Sends Bills Past Lions
(Detroit, MI) -- Dan Carpenter booted a 58-yard field goal with four seconds left to lift the Bills in a 17-14 win over the Lions from Ford Field. Buffalo rallied from a 14-0 deficit to improve to 3-2. Kyle Orton threw for 308 yards with a touchdown and an interception while Fred Jackson ran for 49 yards. The Bills needed a TD and two-point conversion early in the fourth to tie the score. Matthew Stafford threw for 221 yards with a touchdown and an INT. Golden Tate made seven catches for 134 yards and a score while Calvin Johnson was held to just one catch for seven yards nursing an ankle injury. Detroit falls to 3-and-2 with the loss. Alex Henery missed all three field goal he attempted, including one from 50-yards out with less than 30 seconds left leading to the game-winner by Carpenter.
Manning Leads Broncos Past Cardinals
(Denver, CO) -- Peyton Manning went 31-of-47 for 479 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Broncos to a 41-20 victory over the Cardinals from Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The first of the four made Manning just the second player to throw for 500 career touchdowns. Demaryius Thomas hauled in eight balls for 226 yards and two scores, and Julius Thomas hauled in a pair of TDs to help Denver improve to 3-1 on the year. Drew Stanton tossed for 118 yards before being forced out of action in the third quarter with a concussion. Rookie Logan Thomas connected with Andre Ellington on an 81-yard touchdown for his only completion in his place. Ellington also chipped in with 32 yards and a score on the ground as Arizona suffered its first loss of the season.
49ers Knock Off Chiefs
(Santa Clara, CA) -- Phil Dawson hit three straight goals to lift the 49ers to a 22-17 win over the Chiefs at Levi's Stadium. Dawson was 5-for-5 on the day as San Francisco improved to 3-and-2. Colin Kaepernick threw for 201 yards and a touchdown in the win. Frank Gore ran for 107 yards while Stevie Johnson hauled in a TD. Alex Smith returned to the Bay Area for the first time since he was traded to Kansas City. He finished with 175 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception for KC, which slipped to 2-and-3. Jamaal Charles rushed for 80 yards in defeat. De'Anthony Thomas caught a 17-yard TD pass from Smith in the third quarter to give KC a short-lived lead.
Chargers Shut Out Jets
(San Diego, CA) -- Phillip Rivers tossed for 288 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Chargers to a dominating 31-0 win over the Jets at Qualcomm Stadium. Branden Oliver rushed for 114 yards and a score on 19 carries and added a TD-catch. Antonio Gates hauled in a pair of touchdowns while the defense surrendered just 151 yards of total offense to help San Diego improve to 4-1. Geno Smith threw for 27 yards and tossed a pick before being benched at halftime for veteran Michael Vick. He went 8-of-19 for 47 yards and added 14 rushing yards in his place. As a team New York totaled 91 yards on the ground as it fell to 1-and-4 on the season.
Patriots Destroy Bengals On "Sunday Night Football"
(Foxboro, MA) -- The Patriots were written off a tad too quickly. Tom Brady came to life throwing for 292 yards and two touchdowns to lead New England to a 43-17 victory over the Bengals at Gillette Stadium. Steven Ridley scored a touchdown on the ground as he and Shane Vereen combined for 203 rushing yards. Rob Gronkowski and Tim Wright hauled in the Brady TD tosses. The Pats are tied atop the AFC East with the Bills at 3-2. Cincinnati fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and never recovered. The closest they got was 20-10 when Andy Dalton found Mohamed Sanu for a 37-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. Dalton finished with two TDs and 204 passing yards. It was the Bengals first loss of the season through four games.
