Michael Sam remains without an NFL team two days after the league's first openly gay active player was waived by the St. Louis Rams, who did not include the defensive end on their practice squad. Sam, a seventh-round pick in this year's draft who publicly declared his homosexuality prior to February's scouting combine, was left off the 10-man squad that the Rams filled Monday. The 2013 SEC Defensive Player of the Year appeared to be the victim of a numbers game, with the Rams already carrying five defensive ends on their active roster and short on depth at other positions.

Rams Claim Keenum

(St. Louis, MO) -- The Rams are adding depth to the quarterback position. St. Louis claimed Case Keenum off waivers from the Texans. He was released after Houston acquired Ryan Mallett from the Patriots in a trade over the weekend. Keenum started eight games last season throwing for 1,760 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions. St. Louis is starting Shaun Hill under center after they lost Sam Bradford for the season.

Bears Get Prepared For Bills

(Lake Forest, IL) -- The Bears are officially gearing up for a game that counts. Chicago welcomes the Buffalo Bills to Soldier Field this Sunday afternoon to start the regular season. The Bills were just 6-10 last season. Sunday's kick is set for noon.

The Bears say they will wait a few days before deciding the roster status of wide receiver Marquess Wilson. He's expected to miss the next month with a broken collarbone. The team can free a roster spot by placing him on injured reserve with a designation to return.
