NCAA Reaches Proposed Settlement

The NCAA has reached a proposed settlement in its concussion-related class action lawsuits.The NCAA will provide $70 million for concussion testing and diagnosis of current and former student-athletes as part of the agreement that needs to be approved by Judge John Lee of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. It also includes educational initiatives and $5 million in concussion research, resolving the 14 pending class actions that were consolidated in a Chicago federal court. Under the proposed agreement, all current and former NCAA student-athletes in all sports and divisions who competed at an NCAA member school within the past 50 years may qualify for physical examination, neurological measurements and neurocognitive assessments. Bodily injury claims are not part of this settlement.

Rams Have Off Day Today

(Earth City, MO) -- After slipping into pads for the first time at Tuesday's practice, the St. Louis Rams are off today and Thursday. The Rams return to the practice field on Friday and will take part in an open scrimmage Saturday at the Edward Jones Dome. St. Louis will hold practices until August 20th and kicks off the preseason on August 8 at home against the Saints.

Bears Get Back To Work

(Bourbonnais, IL) -- After a day off yesterday, the Bears get back to work this morning in Bourbonnais. The team will practice starting at 9 a.m. from Olivet Nazarene University. It's "Ladies Day" at training camp. The Bears open the preseason a week from Friday at home against the Eagles.

Big Ten Media Days Close

(Chicago, IL) -- Big Ten Media Days wrapped up Tuesday. Illinois was represented by coach Tim Beckman along with players Simon Cvijanovic, Jon Davis and Austin Teitsma. Northwestern was repped by coach Pat Fitzgerland and players Ibraheim Campbell, Collin Ellis and Trevor Siemian.

Tigers Receiver Suspended For Season

(Columbia, MO) -- The NCAA has suspended Missouri wide receiver Levi Copelin for the entire 2014 season after a failed drug test. The redshirt sophomore says he tested positive for a nutritional supplement which is legal and available to the public, but is also on the NCAA's list of banned substances. Copelin caught just three passes as a freshman last year, but was expected to be a key contributor on offense after the dismissal of Dorial Green-Beckham in April.
