Bears Cut Ties With Peppers
(Lake Forest, IL) -- The Bears are cutting ties with veteran defensive end Julius Peppers. The 34-year-old started all 64 games for Chicago in his four-year stint with the club. The Bears signed him at the start of free agency in March of 2010 after he spent eight years with the Carolina Panthers.
The Bears are reshaping the defense by signing Lamarr Houston. The defensive end will reportedly ink a five-year deal worth $35-million. Houston had 69 tackles and six sacks with the Oakland Raiders last year.
The Bears were very active of the first day of free agency. In addition to signing Lamarr Houston, Chicago also came to terms with safety Ryan Mundy on a two-year deal. The Bears are also set to sign linebacker D.J. Williams and special teams ace Jordan Senn.
Free agent quarterback Josh McCown is making the rounds this week. The signal-caller is set to visit with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans and New York Jets. The Bears join those three teams as the favorites to land McCown, who enjoyed a career year with Chicago.
Rams Lose Saffold On First Day Of Free Agency
(Alameda, CA) -- The Rams are parting ways with offensive lineman Rodger Saffold. The free agent agreed to a five-year deal worth $42.5-million with the Oakland Raiders yesterday, the first of free agency. Saffold played all four of his NFL seasons with St. Louis.
The Rams made it official Tuesday, cutting veteran cornerback Cortland Finnegan. Reports surfaced last week that the move would take place. The move helps the Rams save around $4-million in salary cap space. Free agents are now allowed to sign with any team.
