Mattoon, Taylorville Pick Up Mattoon Invitational Titles, EHS Girls Win Over Altamont

Mattoon claimed the girls championship of its own cross country invitational Thursday while Taylorville was the boys team champion.

The Green Wave tallied 31 points as Whitney Maninfior won with a time of 18:34.42 and teammate Megan Schaffer took second in 18:58.82.

The Green Wave were followed by Mount Zion 79, Taylorville 90, Charleston 96, Newton 144, Neoga 164, Cumberland 170, Teutopolis 182, Robinson 186, Rantoul 264 and Paris 285. Effingham St. Anthony, Dieterich, Decatur MacArthur and Marshall competed but did not have enough team members for a score.

In the boys meet, Taylorville won with 45 points followed by Mount Zion 52, Charleston 93, Mattoon 105, Teutopolis 148, Robinson 171, Marshall 175, Cumberland 223, Neoga 246, Decatur MacArthur 246, Dieterich 331, Paris 342, Rantoul 360 and Newton 369. St. Anthony did not have enough team members for a score.

Mount Zion's Curtis Reed won the event with a time of 15:42.36.

At Altamont

The Effingham girls picked up a victory over Altamont while the boys suffered a loss.

In girls action, Effingham tallied 20 points followed by Altamont with 39. Effingham's Jenna Bingham claimed the top spot with a time of 20:27. Also scoring were Shayna Phillips second in 20:35, Haley Fatheree fourth in 22:30, Madi Wolfer fifth in 23:29 and Kelly Kietel eighth in 25:15.

Altamont's top runner was Madison Ohnesorge third in 22:10.

In the boys meet, Altamont's Andrew Sharp took first in 16:25 and Bretley Langham second in 17:58 as the Indians won 26-31. Efifngham's Jacob Donaldson was third in 17:59. Also scoring for Altamont were Jesus Flores fifth in 18:11, Devin Durbin sixth in 18:39 and Ethan Deadmond 16th in 21:09.
