St. Anthony, Cumberland, Area Runners Advance In Class 1A C.C. Sectionals To State

Effingham St. Anthony High School finished fourth in the girls meet while Cumberland took fifth in the boys meet at the Class 1A Cumberland Cross Country Sectional Saturday to advance as teams.
Along with the top six teams, the top 10 runners, not members of those teams, also advance to the State Cross Country Meet this coming Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
Tolono Unity won the girls meet with 79 points followed by Shelbyville 126, St. Joseph-Ogden 137, St. Anthony 161, Fairfield 176 and Paxton-Buckley-Loda 176 and those teams advance. They were followed by Monticello 189, Marshall 207, Urbana University 218, Robinson 232, Decatur St. Teresa 272, Fithian Oakwood 286, Champaign St. Thomas More 290, Newton 325, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 347, Tuscola 351, Dieterich 441.Teutopolis 458, Moweaqua Central A&M 493 and Carlinville 564.
St. Anthony's Isabella Keller won the meet, finishing first in 16:35.0 out of 144 runners.
Also competing for the Bulldogs were Aubrey Denning eighth in 18:04.2, Emeline Wines 27th in 20:18.5, Nancy Ruholl 64th in 21:48.6, Leah Delrossi 81st in 22:25.6, Camille Wines 100th in 23:51.7 and Ava Faber 115th in 24:52.9.
Competing for Newton were Layna Marshall 19th in 19:40.0, Avery Geier 74th in 22:09.3, Shay Bennett 78th in 22:23.1, Lily Yager 95th in 23:38.2 and Kate Bierman 107th in 24:16.4.
Lena Goebel finished 57th for Dieterich in 21:20.0 followed by teammates Lydia Fuesting 101st in 23:55.5, Callie Faller 112th in 24:36.1, Avery Bohnhoff 116th in 24:58.4, Addison Miller 122nd in 25:27.6, Allison Boerngen 127th in 25:59.2 and Bailey Hewkin 130th in 26:19.5.
Teutopolis finishers were Pearl Huber 98th in 23:45.3, Ella Niehls 102nd in 24:01.1, Mary Jane Dennis 105th in 24:22.5, Aurora Pasqualetto 109th in 24:29.6, Maddie Zane 111th in 24:33.0, Abigail Zane 117th in 25:01.2 and Elaine Gaffin 123rd in 25:35.3.
Other area competitors were Neoga's Atalie Osborn who finished 84th in 22:34.8 and Addison Mast who finished 106th in 24:15.8.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Zoe Sarver took 47th in 20:50.9.
In the boys meet, Georgetown Notre Dame de La Salette won with 97 points followed by St. Joseph-Ogden 152, Urbana University 152, Tolono Unity 194, Cumberland 221, Gillespie 228, Effingham St. Anthony 241, Monticello 257, Decatur St. Teresa 261, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 267, Broadlands Heritage 291, Shelbyville 294, Fairfield 314, Webber Township (Bluford) 333, Paris 344, Robinson 385 and Newton 386.
Advancing for Cumberland were Cameron Roedl 17th in 16:05.6, Riley Morgan 49th in 17:05.1, Kaleb Bierman 52nd in 17:09.8, Gavin Whitaker 65th in 17:31.5, Brett Matusas 70th in 17:36.7, Gavin Ray 73rd in 17:38.2 and Kade Bradley 97th in 18:01.9.
Effingham St. Anthony finished just one place out of advancing in seventh as a team.
Julius Ramos took 10th place in 15:57.1 and advanced as an individual to the State Meet. Also competing for the Bulldogs were Noah Flaig 53rd in 17:09.8, Camden Bloemer 57th in 17:17.2, Oliver Kreke 58th in 17:18.6, Michael Fearday 100th in 18:08.7, Isaac Tays 118th in 18:38.4 and Calvin Sudkamp 150th in 20:25.2.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's August Cosart finished seventh with a time of 15:54.1 and will advance as an individual.
Other members of the CHBC team competing were Griffin Vaughn 24th in 16:24.0, Aiden Wallace 85th in 17:49.1, Deacon Sutter 89th in 17:55.7, Porter Lilly 103rd in 18:10.0, Hayden Sarver 125th in 18:50.8 and Kaiden Garrido 135th in 19:16.8.
Newton's top runner was Jackson Sornberger 45th in 16:57.9. Other Eagles competing were Isaac Street 86th in 17:51.0, Tanner Whitaker 95th in 18:00.1, Hayden Borgic 108th in 18:18.8, Holden Barthlemy 109th in 18:18.8, Alec Bower 129th in 19:00.8 and Johnnie Brant 136th in 19:20.4.
Dieterich's Trevor Crutcher competed and finished in 36th place with a time of 16:40.1.
The Class 1A girls advancing to State will be running at 11 a.m. with the Class 1A boys scheduled at 10 a.m. at Detweiler Park in Peoria this coming Saturday.
