Effingham's Jessica Larsen Advances To C.C. State

OLNEY --  Effingham High School competed in the Class 2A Richland County, Olney Cross Country Sectional at Olney Central College Saturday.

The Hearts' Jessica Larsen was the lone EHS runner to advance.

The top seven teams and top 10 runners, not members of those teams, advance to the State Cross Country Meet this coming Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Larsen will be competing at 11 a.m.

Larsen finished 21st with a time of 19:12.81.

Chatham Glenwood won the team championship with 50 points followed by Rochester 74, Carterville 143, Mahomet-Seymour 149, Waterloo 159, Champaign Centennial 184 and Mascoutah 189 in the top seven and those teams advance.

Also competing were Olney 217, Mount Zion 223, Effingham 231, Highland 234, Troy Triad 271, Champaign Central 284, Mount Vernon 386,  Freeburg 421, Centralia 438 and East St. Louis 454.

Others competing for the Hearts were Emery Spicer 30th in 19:32.5, Baylee Summers 43rd in 19:56.3, Morgan Springer 90th in 21:23.3, Laney Myers 97th in 21:31.5, Alaina Miller 127th in 23:23.8 and Lauren Etheridge 134th in 24:09.8.

Winning the individual title was Waterloo's Cameron Crump in 17:40.47.

In the boys meet, Highland won the team championship with 127 points followed by Mahomet-Seymour 135, Marion 145, Mount Vernon 158, Chatham Glenwood 180, Bethalto Civic Memorial 188 and Herrin 203 and those seven teams advance. They were followed by Taylorville 205, Mascoutah 213, Mount Zion 233, Champaign Central 260, Olney 282, Troy Triad 291, Carterville 299, Charleston 327, Urbana 375,  Waterloo 407 and Lincoln 417.

Effingham's Alex Gordon was the lone Hearts runner competing and he finished 21st in 15:57.54 and just missed advancing by one spot.
