Newton Boys, Girls Compete At Patriot C.C. Invite

PEORIA -- The Newton High School girls cross country team finished 17 while the boys took 19th out of 34 teams at the Patriot Cross Country Invitationals Saturday.

Tessa Bowers of Shelbyville was the winner in 16:58.30.

The Newton girls were led by Layna Marshall who finished 21st in 19:16.70. Also scoring were Avery Geier 117th in 22:30.6, Lily Yager 129th in 22:52.10, Shay Bennett 131st in 22:56.10 and Diana Rivera DeMiguel 167th in 24:18. Others competing were Kate Bierman 201st in 25:15.30 and Natalie Kistner 233rd in 27:30.30.

Williamsville won the team title for the girls with 100 points  followed by Shelbyville second with 107.

In the boys meet, Elmwood won with 82 points. Newton finished 19th with 482 points.

Delavan's Coriell Green won with a time of 15:23.60.

Scoring for Newton were Jackson Sornberger 67th in 17:10.00, Hayden Borgic 103rd in 17:51.00, Isaac Street 108th in 17:54.10, Tanner Whitaker 122nd in 17:59.70 and Johnnie Brant 147th in 18:22.10. Others competing were Alec Bower 163rd in 18:42.00 and Tyler Spiker 249th in 21:35.80.
