Effingham Junior High School captured third place at the Class 3A Taylorville Sectional.

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham Junior High School's boys are headed back to State as a team, qualifying for the second year in a row with a third place finish at the Class 3A Taylorville Cross Country Sectional Saturday.

Jared Klingler led the Mustangs with a first place finish setting a new school record of 10:55.5. Klingler is the first-ever sectional champion for boys or girls from Effingham.

Other members of the state qualifying team were eighth-graders Mason Overbeck, Tristen Smith, Kaden Rohr, Joel Flack, William Percival, Tristan Devall, Xzaviour Layne and Brody Brown and seventh-grader Maddux Wyckoff.

Winning the team title was Mount Zion with 49 points followed by Downs Tri-Valley 51, Effingham 93, Tolono Unity 106, Monticello 150, Charleston 184, Clinton 189, Mattoon 217,  Taylorville 234, Robinson Nuttall 251, Jasper County 257 and Maroa-Forsyth 302.

Smith finished 14th in 11:40.9, Overbeck 21st in 11:54.6, Flack 25th in 12;00.1, Percival 32nd in 12:11.4 and Wyckoff 44th in 12:40.3. In the open, Layne was fifth in 12:52.3, Devall sixth in 13:02.1 and Brown 32nd in 14:56.7.

Jasper County had two runners competing, Derek Anderson who finished 35th in 12:18.4 and Preston Harris who finished 42nd in 12:36.5.

The Effingham girls finished 10th as a team. Tolono Unity won with 84 points followed by Mount Zion 95, Clinton 107, Lawrenceville Parkview 122, Jasper County 133, Downs Tri-Valley 133, Taylorville 156, Robinson Nuttall 188, Monticello 189, Effingham 247, Charleston 250 and Mattoon 302.

Clinton's McKenna Beck won the sectional with a time of 12:00.6.

The EJHS girls sectional team was made up of eighth-graders Pankau, Taylor Davis, Aleece Lotz, Julie Larsen and seventh-graders Kloey Bierman, Addisyn Schackmann, Kenley Moore and sixth-graders, Baylee Bierman, Kynlie Rohr and Sophia Wiedman. They had nine personal records on the day.

Effingham's Laynee Pankau was 36th in 13:42.1 with a personal record time. K. Bierman finished 47th in 13:58. Davis had a time of 14:02, Schackmann 14:06, Rohr 14:13, B. Bierman 14:36 and Lotz 14:41.

Jasper County finished fifth as a team. Brooke Gentry claimed eighth in 12:44 followed by teammates Heather Bergbower 11th in 12:53.5, Chloe Holsapple 25th in 13:26.2, Josie Vogt 41st in 13:52.7, Alayna Harston 48th in 13:59.6 and Natalie Briscoe 50th in 14:02.4.

The EJHS boys team will be competing this coming Saturday at the IESA State Meet at Maxwell Park in Normal with the girls race at 12:15 a.m. and the boys race at 1 p.m.

Effingham's Jared Klingler won the Class 3A Taylorville Sectional.

 

Class 1A Danville Schlarman Sectional

Effingham St. Anthony won the championship of the Class 1A Danville Schlarman Girls Sectional with 29 points followed by Sigel St. Michael 65, Rossville-Alvin 87, Findlay Okaw Valley 102, Mattoon St. John's 135, Potomac 146, Homer Heritage 158 and Danville Schlarman 166.

The Bullpups are on their way to the State Meet and were led by Nora Niebrugge who placed first in 13:03.14 and Bella Schultz who took second in 13:28.51. Also competing for the Bullpups were Maeve Niebrugge seventh in 14:08.65, Hannah Frisbie eighth in 14:09.55, Amelia Janis 11th in 14:38.78, Morgan Kabbes 14th in 14:42.55 and Rosie Warner 36th in 15:40.05.

St. Michael was led by Violet Walk who took third in 13:35.76, Tinley Niebrugge sixth in 13:55.84, Brianna Niebrugge 10th in 14:28.54, Reece Niebrugge 20th in 15:03.71, Ruby Walk 28h in 15:21.50, Molli Dasenbrock 37th in 15:40.85 and Alicia Rivas 42nd in 16:17.56. The Sharpshooters advanced to the State Meet.

Altamont Lutheran had two runners competing. Reagan Winter finished 12th with a time of 14:38.79 and Katelyn Pagone was 41st in 16:13.00. Winter advances to the State Meet

Effingham Sacred Heart's Korie-Lynn Robertson was 43rd in 16:28.65 while Lillian Rodgers was 63rd in 26:02.82.

In the boys sectional, Danville Schlarman won the team title with 42 points followed by Effingham St. Anthony 59, Sigel St. Michael 67,  Altamont Lutheran 103, Chrisman Scottland 142, Georgetown La Salette 175, Mattoon St. John's 187 and Rossville-Alvin 208.

St. Anthony nabbed the top two spots just like the girls squad as Max Schuette won in 11:39.99 and Charlie Bierman was second in 11:51.73. Also scoring for the Bullpups were Blake Verdeyen 16th in 12:34.01, Braxton Schultz 18th in 12:36.92 and Will Ludwig 26th in 13:02.22. Non-counting scores were Grayson Bloemer 30th in 13:15.30 and James Uebinger 37th in 13:46.07.

The Bullpups advance as a team.

St. Michael's scoring came from Clayton Altgilbers fourth in 11:55.23, Cole Dasenbrock fifth in 12:00.73, Walden Andrews 13th in 12:21.45, Elijah Whittier 20th in 12:41.3 and Jackson Krampe 29th in 13:09.72. Others competing were Noah Platz 33rd in 13:24.72 and Trenton Ballinger 35th in 13:33.63.

The Sharpshooters advance as a team.

Competing for Altamont Lutheran were John Manley 12th in 12:19.34, Kelton Dunaway 19th in 12:40.36, Easton Caraway 24th in 12:54.31, Preston Kroening 25th in 12:57.34, Atticus Osteen 31st in 13:22.34, Griffin Kroening 36th in 13:36.78, Gentry Sefton 47th in 14:11.39

Manley and Dunaway and advance for Altamont Lutheran.

The Class 1A State Meet will be held this coming Saturday at Normal West High School with the girls competing at 9:15 a.m. and the boys at 10 a.m.

 

Class 2A Shelbyville Moulton Sectional

Teutopolis captured fourth place in the girls meet at Shelbyville Moulton Sectinal Saturday.

Shelbyville Moulton won the meet with 18 points followed by Sullivan 71, Staunton 94, Teutopolis 100, Litchfield 115, Gillespie 140, Dieterich 197, West Salem 212, Decatur Johns Hill 250 and Decatur Montessori Academy for Peace 274. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had three runners competing.

Winning the meet was Shelbyville Moulton's Hazel Atkins with a time of 12:03.81.

T-town's Kenzi Dust took eighth in 13:27.92 followed by Isabella Niebrugge 13th in 13:46.08, Lilly Tegeler 23rd in 14:21.32, Penny Dennis 24th in 14:23.57, Sarah Habing 37th in 15:23.85 and Brooklyn Kinkelaar 73rd in 23:33.65.

Qualifying for State for the Shoes were Dust, Niebrugge and Tegeler.

Scoring for Dieterich were Violet Iffert 26th in 14:40.11, Jenna Bohnhoff 39th in 15:29.45, Allie Wright 40th in 15:31.09, Halo Homann 45th in 16;03.02 and Faith Hewkin 70th in 20:08.23. None of the Dieterich runners advance to State.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had three runners competing. Eve Flores was 36th in 15:10.75, Brinlee Gill 41st in 15:33.90 and Scarlett Flores 42nd in 15:45.39. None advanced to State.

Dieterich finished fourth in the boys meet with 108 points. Winning was Shelbyville Moulton with 40 followed by Sullivan 88, Litchfield 99, Dieterich, Teutopolis 109, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 153, Staunton 185 and Gillespie 213.

Dieterich runners were Riley Shellenberger 11th in 12:35.41, Rylan McQueen 28th in 12:55.52, Wade Brummer 21st in 13:01.77, Kyle Goeckner 30th in 13:24.66, Landon McQueen 33rd in 13:29.80 and  Cole Tegeler 35th in 13:32.57. Shellenberger advanced to State.

Competing for Teutopolis were Archer Kitten 12th in 12:35.56, Joseph Habing 13th in 12:36.17, Exavier Smothers 25th in 13:05.97, Chase Kinkelaar 27th in 13:11.81, Leo Zerrusen 38th in 13;51.39, Kyle Bierman 39th in 13:53.91 and Kaleb Dust 45th in 14:15.68. Habing and Kitten advance to State.

Competing for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City were Eli Maxedon fifth in 12:05.74, Kaisyn Calame 14th in 12:41.24, Easton Kramer 43rd in 14:07.17, Luke Roadarmel 51st in 14:36.29, Deakon Rodman 53rd in 14:41.79, Hunter Voudrie 58th in 15:06.83 and Eathan Maxedon 71st in 17:16.23. Calame and E. Maxedon advance to the Class 2A State. Meet at 11:30 a.m. at Normal West High School this coming Saturday.

 

Class 2A St. Joseph Sectional

Cumberland was the lone area team competing in the St. Joseph Sectional Saturday.

In the boys meet, St. Joseph won with 43 points followed by Paris Mayo 70, Casey-Westfield 82, Villa Grove 114, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 124, Bismarck-Henning 171, Tuscola 191, Marshall 192, Cumberland 206 and Kansas 254.

Beau Green of Arthur won the meet with a time of 11;08.74.

Cumberland's Colby Roedl was fifth in 11:28.97 followed by teammates Jacob Osborne 48th in 14:25.33, Graham Braden 56th in 14:49.19, Adam Wolke 64th in 15:42.26, Clayton Shellenbarger 70th in 17:16.38, Grady Cash 73rd in 18:37.09 and Alan Phipps 74th in 19:16.97.

Cumberland's Roedl advances to the Class 2A State Meet.

In the girls meet, St. Joseph won with 58 points followed by Marshall 67, Kansas 81, Bement 136, Cumberand 136, Bismarck-Henning 148, Paris Mayo 150, Casey-Westfield 174, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 224 and Champaign International 235.

Charlene Barbee of St. Joseph was the individual champion with a time of 12:21.83.

Cumberland's Elizabeth Sudkamp was 12th in 14:08.82. Ivy Brummer 23rd in 14:28.78, Paige Wolke 25th in 14:31.99,  Eden Fitch 31st in 14:53.34, Marley Bierman 55th in 16:00.79, Cameron Coleman 63rd in 16:34.34 and Natalie Peters 64th in 16:42.38.

Elizabeth Sudkamp advanced to the Class 2A State Meet at 10:45 a.m. at Normal West High School this coming Saturday.
