EHS Girls Third, Boys Fifth At Apollo Conference C.C. Meets; Newton Boys Win LIC Championships

Baylee Summers, Alex Gordon and Jessica Larsen were named All-Apollo Conference after competing in the cross country meet Tuesday.

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School captured third place in the girls meet and fifth in the boys competition at the Apollo Conference Cross Country meets Tuesday.

Mount Zion won the girls meet with 30 points followed by Mahomet-Seymour 47, Effingham 52, Taylorville 116, Charleston 137 and Mattoon 170.

Mahomet-Seymour's Ava Boyd won the meet with a time of 18:09.1.

Effingham's top finisher was Baylee Summers fifth in 18:57.9. Also scoring for the Hearts were Jessica Larsen seventh in 19:04.2, Audrey Wagoner 12th in 20:30.9, Drew Weis 13th in 20:44.1 and Morgan Springer 15th in 21:04.3. Summers and Larsen were named All-Apollo Conference.

Other runners for the Hearts included Haddie Hill 20th in 21:35.0, Kyra Hazelton 23rd in 21:49.9, Laney Myers 38th in 23:36.3, Lauren Etheridge 59th in 27:36.8 and Gracie Eaton 66th in 30:09.5.

In the boys meet, Mount Zion was also the winner with 31 points followed by Taylorville 48, Mahomet-Seymour 66, Charleston 105, Effingham 122 and Mattoon 179.

Mount Zion's Julian Baker finished first with a time of 15:21.4.

Effingham's Alex Gordon was sixth in 16:15.6. Also scoring for the Hearts were Aaron Hill 27th in 17:42.9, Adam Flack 33rd in 18:17.8, Ino Mapes 34th in 18:26.2 and Evan Klingler 49th in 19:17.2. Gordon was named All-Apollo Conference

 

Little Illini Conference Championships

Newton claimed the championship of the boys Little Illini Conference race at Indiana State University while the Eagles placed fourth in the girls meet Tuesday.

Newton won with 38 points followed by Paris 64, Richland County (Olney) 73, Robinson 77 and Marshall 99.

Robinson's Austin Wesley won the meet with a time of 16:21.9.

Scoring for Newton Kyle Weber second in 16:55.9, Isaac Street eighth in 17:46.6, Brock Probst ninth in 17:47.6, Jackson Sornberger 10th in 17:52.6 and Hayden Borgic 14th in 18:20.9.

Others competing for the Eagles were Tanner Whitaker 19th in 18:33.8, Wade Ochs 22nd in 19:08.3 and Holden Barthlemy 26th in 19:43.5

In the girls meet, Richland County (Olney) won with 42 points followed by Robinson 43, Marshall 52, Newton 105, and Paris 131.

Marshall's Molly Farrell won in 17:43.0.

Scoring for Newton were Layna Marshall sixth in 20:19.9, Shay Bennett 24th in 23:47.1, Katherine Bierman 27th in 24:13.4, Avery Mulvey 32nd in 24:38.7 and Lily Yager 34th in 25:09.0.
