Area Teams Compete At Big Trojan C.C. Invitationals

Effingham High School captured third place in the girls Big Trojan Cross Country Invitational.

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School claimed third place in the girls portion of the Big Trojan Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

Mount Zion won with 63 points followed by Mahomet-Seymour 103, Effingham 105, Champaign Centennial 107, Shelbyville 117, Champaign Central 130, Olney 180, Urbana 180, Tuscola 318, Newton 321, Mattoon 327, Charleston 336, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 342, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 344 and Neoga 374. Fairfield, Cerro Gordo and Danville had runners competing but not enough for a team score.

Tuscola's Kate Foltz won the meet with a time of 17:47.61 minutes.

Scoring for the Hearts were Jessica Larsen who finished ninth with a time of 19:50.46 followed by teammates Baylee Summers 14th in 20:09.74, Drew Weis 29th in 21:32.95, Morgan Springer 33rd in 21:55.29, Laney Myers 69th in 23:51.58 and Lauren Etheridge 134th in 28:51.69.

Competing for Newton were Layna Marshall 18th in 20:26.07, Natalia Kistner 80th in 24:21.5, Lily Yager 100th in 25:34.97, Avery Mulvey 113th in 26:06.92 and Katherine Bierman 128th in 27:04.65.

Finishing for Neoga were Addison Mast 85th in 24:38.51, Lexie Fletcher 88th in 24:42.18, Libby McGinnis 92nd in 24:59.88, Annie Clark 86th in 26:53.94, Natalie Beaumont 130th in 27:26.22, Atalie Osborn 132nd in 27:37.58 and Megan Baker 144th in 30:40.16.

The Effingham High School boys finished 10th with 251 points. Winning was Tuscola with 45 followed by Mount Zion 72, Mahomet-Seymour 80, Champaign Central 112, Cerro Gordo 196, Urbana 210, Charleston 210, Cumberland 220, Newton 225, Effingham 251, Shelbyville 267, Fairfield 286, Olney 343, Danville 382, Champaign Centennial 402 and Mattoon 444. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond did not have enough runners for a score.

Mount Zion's Julian Baker finished first with a time of 15:19.13.

Effingham's Alex Gordon captured sixth place in 16:20.07. Also scoring for the Hearts were Adam Flack 35th in 17:56.71, Aaron Hill 48th in 18:37.16 and, Evan Klngler 85th in 20:05.65

Cumberland's Cameron Roedl was 19th in 16:50.31. Kaleb Bierman finished 34th in 17:53.13, Riley Morgan was 36th in 18:02.28, Cumberland's Zack Buscher 73rd in 19:39.40, Kade Bradley 78th in 19:48.25 and Cole Margenthaler 84th in 20:02.09

Newton's top finisher was Brock Probst 39th in 18:10.86 followed by Haden Borgic 42nd in 18:16..34, Jackson Sornberger 47th in 18:30.86, Isaac Street 51st in 18:41.02 and Tanner Whitaker 53rd in 18:43.02

Jasper County won the junior high girls team championship with 41 points followed by Olney St. Joseph 52, Charleston 61, Teutopolis 76 and Cumberland 0.

Jasper County's Brooke Gentry was fourth in 14:24.09. Heather Bergbower finished sixth in 14:33.36, Avery Geier eighth in 14:53.28. Natalie Briscoe 11th in 15:26.30, Nora Street 12th in 15:26.66, Riley Tarr 13th in 15:41.62, Josie Vogt 16th in 15:45.65, Alivia Bierman 18th in 15:47.15, Kimberly Bierman 25th in 16:16.98, Scarlett Collins 30th in 16:39.02, Chloe Holsapple 34th in 16:56.10, Avery Ochs 36th in 17;34.23, Noelle Sappenfield 41st in 17:58.34, Lindsey Spiker 46th in 19:33.61, Emily Broscious 47th in 19:34.09, Nora Kistner 48th in 19:44.43 and Claire Woods 49th in 19:53.12.

Charleston's Kayden Hein won the meet in 13:34.42.

Teutopolis' Bella Niebrugge finished third in 14:22.85. Also competing were Macy Petersen seventh in 14:45.09, Lily Tegeler 20th in 15:59.96. Sarah Habing 24th in 16:15.02 and Brooklyn Kinkelaar 29th in 16:32.43

Cumberland's finishers were Chloe Holsapple 34th in 16:48.13, Paige Wolke 38th in 17:36.44, Cameron Coleman 39th in 17:50.29 and Audrey Schade 50th in 20:36.40.

The junior high boys team title went to Olney St. Joseph with 42 followed by Cumberland 48, Charleston 57, Jasper County 85 and Teutopolis 111.

St. Joseph-Ogden's Judah Dicks won with a time of 12:10.59.

Competing for Teutopolis were Tyson Brooks third in 12:32.44, Kael Thoele 26th in 14:32.29, Alex Ghast 28th in 14:41.66, John Pruemer 31st in 14:49.26, Archer Kitten 32nd in 14:49.34, Vincent McClellan 33rd in 16:14.92, Joey Habing 50th in 16;21.42, Leo Zerrusen 51st in 16:22.77 and Oliver Feldhake 54th in 17:24.28.

Cumberland's competitors were Aydan Oakley fourth in 12:39.32, Gavin Whitaker fifth in 12:50.09, Henry Malone eighth in 12:57.55, Jacob Pierce 14th in 13:19.0, Samuel Malone 17th in 13:41.92 and Clayton Shellenbarger 66th in 23:46.10.

Jasper County was led by Hayden Frichtl sixth in 12:50.20. Following Frichtl were Levi Salyers 16th in 13:34.12, Evan Holder 20th in 13:48.05, Landon Gentry 21st in 13:52.89, Preston Harris 22nd in 13:58.39, Kendall Probst 23rd in 14:07.70, Alec Bower 24th in 14:21.98, Tyler Spiker 25th in 14:25.26, Cambell Ulm 27th in 14:34.26, Beckett Wolf 30th in 14:48.73, Brett Bower 33rd in 14:51.99, Gauge Williams 57th in 17:51.76 and Joseph McGlothlin 65th in 21:47.82.

Medal winners for the Hearts were, not in order, Jessica Larsen, Baylee Summers, Audrey Wagoner, Morgan Springer, Drew Weis, Alex Gordon and Adam Flack.
