MATTOON -- Effingham High School claimed second in the Apollo Conference Girls Cross Country Meet Tuesday at Lake Land College while the boys team finished fifth.

Winning the girls meet was Mount Zion with 32 points followed by the Hearts with 60, Mahomet-Seymour 70, Taylorville 120, Charleston 134, Mattoon 148 and Lincoln 150.

Lincoln's Becca Heitzig finished first with a time of 18:03.4.

Effingham's Jessica Larsen was fourth in 19:14.5 followed by teammates Baylee Summers 11th in 20:50.1, Haddie HIll 12th in 20:50.6, Audrey Wagoner 15th in 21:21.2 and Morgan Springer 18th in 21:34.2.

In the boys meet, Mahomet-Seymour claimed the title with 49 points followed by Lincoln 66, Taylorville 75, Mount Zion 89, Effingham 92, Charleston 165 and Mattoon 215.

Lincoln's Branden Heitzig won the meet with a time of 15:06.6.

Scoring for the Hearts were Garrett Wagoner fifth in 16:22.5, Andrw Donaldson sixth in 16:42.4, Alex Gordon 23rd in 17:55.0, Aaron Hill 31st in 18:35.6 and Adam Flack 32nd in  18:46.2

National Trail Conference Meets

Effingham St. Anthony won the boys National Trail Conference Cross Country Meet Tuesday. The girls did not have team scores.

The Bulldogs tallied 15 points followed by Dieterich 48. Other teams without enough runners for a team score were North Clay (Louisville), Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Altamont.

St. Anthony claimed the top three spots as Griffen Elder won in 16:26 followed by Julius Ramos in 17:21 and Aidan Braunecker in 17:24. The Bulldogs placed all five scoring runners in the top six as Giovanni Bucio took fifth in 17:51 and Conlan Walsh sixth in 18:05. Noah Flaig finished eighth in 18:40.

Dieterich's top finisher was Jack Bloemer ninth in 19:03.

Finishing first in the girls race was St. Anthony's Emma Helmink in 21:06. The Bulldogs' Stacie Vonderheide took second in 21:31. North Clay's Brooke Koelm was third in 22:16, Neoga's Addison Mast fourth in 22:34 and Altamont's Abigail Weishaar fifth in 22:35.
